  • The Assembly elections in three states recently saw a first as polling in some booths in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh was “webcast”. The idea was the brainchild of district Deputy Commissioner Swati Sharma, who was actively encouraged by Deputy Election Commissioner in Nirvachan Sadan and in-charge of the state, Alok Shukla. In his customary post-poll briefing, Chief Election Commissioner Navin B Chawla acknowledged the contributions of two functionaries: Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi was applauded for his drive to involve Residents’ Welfare Associations in Gurgaon and Faridabad in the election process, and the young Arunachal district Deputy Commissioner was appreciated for her initiative in the state.
