  • Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Joint Director Arun Kumar may leave the agency to join his parent cadre earlier than expected.

Kumar was due for transfer to Uttar Pradesh in October 2009, but is learnt to have put in a request last month with the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) for an early release from the CBI, citing his children’s studies, said sources.

His request was accepted by the government, sources said, which means that he would soon bid the agency adieu.

“The order for Arun Kumar’s repatriation has not come to us yet but his request has been accepted,” CBI spokesperson Harsh Bhal said. Bhal clarified that Kumar’s request for transfer does not have anything to do with the Arushi-Hemraj double murder case.

Kumar, an IPS officer from UP cadre, joined the CBI on November 11, 2002.
