The cross-examination of Dr B K Mahapatra, senior biologist with the CFSL, continued in a Arushi-Hemraj murder case on Friday. The vaginal swabs, which were sent to CFSL, emerged a major bone of contention. Mahapatra had in his statement before the court said the sample received by the laboratory was contaminated and contained evidence of DNA of more than one person. Talwars' counsel asked Mahapatra why DNA samples on slides could not be matched with those taken from Arushi's bedsheet. "It cannot be established if the DNA samples match, because the swabs were contaminated," Mahapatra said. Cross examination will resume on Monday.
