Slow implementation of the schemes in minority-concentrated district has now prompted Union Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khursheed to talk directly to state-level authorities across the nation. After reviewing the progress of the Multi-Sectoral Development Plan (MSDP) across 90 districts this month, the minister has decided to hold regular video conferencing sessions with state authorities to push them for faster and better implementation of the projects in the plan.
A flagship scheme of Centre, the MSDP is in its final year. In UP,the plan is being implemented in 21 districts, including Bulandshahr,Aligarh,Lucknow,Muzaffar Nagar,Farrukhabad,Badaun,Barabanki,Shajahanpur,Rampur,Behraich,Blarmapur,Siddarthnagar,Shrawasti,Meerut and Moradabad.
The scheme aims at providing facilities of other government schemes in areas which are backward in terms of development and have a sizeable minority population. These include construction of houses under Indira Awas Yojna (IAY),providing drinking water and other infrastructure and construction of schools and ITIs for benefit of students from minority community.
This is the last year of the scheme, and so far it was progressing fine as smaller projects were being taken up. But this year, the progress of the scheme has been a disappointment as bigger projects have started, said Khurseed.
We are sure that we will cross Rs 3,700 crore mark, which is our final years budget. So I am writing to MPs and now have started talking to officials regularly, the ministers added.
On the progress made by the scheme in UP,Khursheed said: It was doing well last year and the ITI part of the scheme progress very well. This year, however,it has slowed down.
It has already been decided to hold video-conferencing sessions and state-level officials of the minority affairs departments have been informed about it.
