Aseemanand confession: Court issues notice to CBI

A Tis Hazari court asked the CBI to explain how the confessional statement of Swami Aseemanand,an accused in the Ajmer dargah blast case, was leaked to the media.

A Tis Hazari court on Friday asked the CBI to explain how the confessional statement of Swami Aseemanand,an accused in the Ajmer dargah blast case, was leaked to the media.

“Issue a notice to the Director CBI to give a report regarding the circumstances under which the copy of the confessional statement has been leaked to the media,” Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Bansal said. The court asked the agency to file its response on February 15.

Devendra Gupta,an RSS leader lodged in Ajmer jail and facing a chargesheet filed by the Rajasthan ATS,had alleged that Aseemanand’s statement, recorded under Section 164 of CrPC before Metropolitan Magistrate Deepak Dabbas on December 18 last year, was “illegally published in connivance with the CBI Investigative Officer (T Rajah Balaji) and Tehelka magazine”.

Gupta’s counsel Anupam Sharma argued that the leakage was done to intentionally outrage the religious beliefs of a class, and amounted to interference in fair trial and contempt of court.
