The head honcho of Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision Ltd, Dhillin Mehta, was arrested at the international airport on Wednesday night. Mehta was arrested on the basis of a case filed against him for unpaid dues and was whisked away to Jaipur.
Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision Ltd, producers of superhit films like Jab We Met and the Golmaal franchise, was picked up by the Rajasthan police hours before he was scheduled to board a flight to Dubai. Apparently, a look-out notice was issued against him a week back, pertinent to the case of unpaid dues amounting to approximately Rs 1.58 crore to Jaipur-based line-producer Surender Kalra for Ashtavinayak's under-production Sher . It was under this subpoena that Mehta was stopped at the immigration by the Rajasthan cops, who were in Mumbai looking for him.
Mehta was flown to Jaipur on an early morning flight and taken to the Jalupura police station, where he was formally arrested. However, before Mehta could be produced in a court for remand, one of the directors of the company had reached Jaipur and paid Kalra Rs. 40 lakh in cash and handover post-dated cheques of Rs. 80 lakh. Based on these payments made to Kalra and Mehta's undertaking that the outstanding would be cleared, the magistrate's court granted him bail. However, Mehta's passport was seized.
