Asim promises Rs 5 cr for science fairs

In an attempt to inculcate scientific quest among young children State Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta today promised a sum of Rs 5 crore to the School Education Department to organise science exhibitions for schoolchildren at district and state level every year.

In an attempt to inculcate scientific quest among young children State Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta today promised a sum of Rs 5 crore to the School Education Department to organise science exhibitions for schoolchildren at district and state level every year.

Dasgupta,who was speaking at the 36 Jawaharlal Nehru Science Exhibition,said his department is waiting for a proposal from the school education department so that funds could be allocated for this purpose.

He said that the NCERT science exhibition,which is a national event,was organised in the city after 27 years but the government would want such exhibitions to be held every year in the state.

The minister said that funds allocated under this scheme can also be used for upgrading infrastructure of various laboratories in schools across the state. The school education department has been asked to identify laboratories in the district schools which need to be upgraded,he added.
