In a physical test for the post of constables in the Chandigarh police on Tuesday, all women aspirants failed to cross the finish line. None of the 13 candidates managed to run 500 meters in 2 minutes. The test was conducted in police lines in Sector 26. The posts were in the operator (wireless) category. For the 30 posts for women out of the total 60,the Chandigarh police had received 20 applications. Of these,13 had qualified for the physical test. And none of them could clear it,a senior police officer said. The failure of these young aspirants has disappointed the Chandigarh police looking forward to increase the percentage of women cops from the present 6.72 to 10 per cent. In the operator category, the police had sought to increase their strength to 50 per cent. Now,the Chandigarh police will advertise afresh for the posts. Senior police officials say the response in the women operator category has been poor,as the minimum qualification required was Class XII with Maths,Physics and Chemistry. All woman aspirants failed in their physical tests today. But overall (for the other 32 posts in the general category),the response (from women) has been tremendous. The operator category demanded science in Class XII, Inspector General of Police S K Jain said. We will conduct the tests again by issuing fresh advertisements. 400 women clear test for posts in general categoryMeanwhile, for the post of 150 constables (including 32 for women) in the general category,34,000 applications were received and 27,000 candidates were selected. Of these,20,000 took the physical test over the last weeks. After the physical test concluded today,2,000 candidates, including 400 women, were selected. Unlike in case of the operator category, the minimum qualification required for the posts in general category is Class XII in any stream. Now,the selected candidates will appear in the written test. At present, there are 242 women cops among the total 3,950 personnel of the Chandigarh police.
