Assam serial blasts: Toll rises to 10

    A powerful bomb blast went off in Maligaon, killing seven persons on Monday and injuring 56, some of them critically.

    The toll in the blasts rose to 10 with two of the 61 injured succumbing to their injuries.

    A woman injured in the blast in Guwahati and a youth injured in the Dhekijuli blast died on Tuesday morning, informed sources in the police.

    A powerful bomb blast went off in Maligaon, killing seven persons on Monday and injuring 56, some of them critically. Khatun was injured in the Maligaon blast.

    In another blast last evening in Dhubri district, an unidentified youth lobbed a hand grenade at Mankachar police station killing a police driver Shabbir Hussain and injuring another.

    Another powerful bomb ripped through a busy market place at Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district injuring five persons, including three CRPF personnel.

    Militant outfit Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) exploded a bomb near a BSF camp at Jengpha in Central Assam's Karbi Anglong district.

    An unidentified man also hurled a grenade at a commercial building at Amjuli in Udalguri district but it did not go off.

    Altogether 62 persons were injured in the serial blasts.

    "This is the handiwork of ULFA boys ahead of the outfit's 'Raising Day'," a senior police officer said.

    Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is scheduled to visit the state on Tuesday.
