Eminent Assamese poet, essayist and short story writer Nagen Saikia has been chosen for the prestigious Assam Valley Literary Award for the year 2007, instituted by Williamson Magor Education Trust. Saikia (68), a former professor of Assamese literature in Dibrugarh University and a former member of the Rajya Sabha, has 23 books to his credit, which include three novels and five collections of literary essays, apart from two books in English. A winner of the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 1997 for his short story collection called Endharat Nijor Mukh, Saikia will be presented with the Literary Award here in March.
