The month-long Budget Session of the Gujarat State Assembly will begin on February 24. State Finance Minister Vajubhai Vala,the longest serving finance minister of Gujarat,will present his 15th budget in the Assembly.
In addition to a bill on the technological university,important amendments related to revenue are also expected to be introduced in the budget. Also,the budget emphasis is expected to be more on welfare schemes,as elections in six municipal corporations,more than 20 district panchayats as well as municipalities and taluka panchayats are scheduled for October and November.
State Assembly Speaker Ashok Bhatt said the annual budget will be presented in the house on February 25,while the session will conclude on March 25.
The Congress,meanwhile,intends to take on the government on issues like inadequate power supply for farmers and delay in granting land to tribals. The charges of corruption levelled by Leader of the Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil on the issue of divestment of equity of 49 per cent in Gujarat Pipavav Power Company (GPPC) to a little known Swan Energy Ltd,and hike in retail prices of CNG by state-owned GSPC and Adani Energy Ltd are also likely to be voiced during the session.
