The Samajwadi Party’s state president Akhilesh Yadav has begun the exercise for selecting candidates for the by-polls to the 13 Assembly seats in the state.

It is Akhilesh’s first assignment as the president of the state unit.

The Kannauj MP met the aspirants for three seats — Mughalsarai (Chandauli), Issauli (Sultanpur) and Jhansi. Accompanied by his uncle and leader of Opposition in the Assembly Shiv Pal Yadav, he met the leaders and discussed the political situation in their constituencies. Sources said Akhilesh has done his ground work and analysed the booth-wise results of the constituencies before collecting views of the district-level leaders.

During his interaction with the aspirants, Akhilesh focused on the booth-wise polls results in the recent LS polls, besides the Assembly results of the 2007.

“I have just collected their opinions. There are several aspirants for the tickets,” he said.

selection of candidates for by-polls By: atul sinha | 22-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward it is good that Mr Akhilesh Yadav is taking personal interst in selecting the right candicates . He is bound to do that as President of a National Political Party once headed by his socialist father Sri Mulayam SinghYadav . But one or more things Mr Akhilesh Yadav should be cautious of. Candidate must be a person of sufficient knowledge of public administration, as to how government works for the welfare of the people . should be hardworking enough to see that his/her area gets development agenda above all this nonsensical caste or communal formula. Mr. Akhilesh Yadav is new to thsi post and he will get a very good image on all India basis if he chooses to leave the old pattern of choosing candidates such as the person who can get vote , will get ticket. Politically it may sound overenthusiatic but in long run he will get an excellent image . Good candidate always gets vote irrecpective of his muscle power/caste or religion to attract voters. see exmple of bihar .Tks atul sinha
