Patiala, September 28: The Patiala District Administration played a spoilsport at the sangat darshan programme held by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. They made it sure that sangat and mediapersons stay away from the venue. Badal was in the city for the fourth phase of issuing grants and said his Government will spend Rs 550 crore to give better facilities to villages.

Following orders of Patiala Deputy Commissioner Vikas Garg and other senior police officials, security persons created numerous hindrances for the public who had come all the way to meet the chief minister.

“Show us the card signed by the Patiala SSP and DC, only then you can meet the chief minister,” said a constable to one of the invited mediapersons.

Even after being invited by the District Public Relations Office to cover the function, the security men not only misbehaved but refused to allow journalists and camerapersons inside the venue. Later, Badal’s media advisor HS Bains assured mediapersons to look into the matter.

The chief minister said Dalits were mistreated by the Congress during their regime, who did not bother to extend any facilities to the community. “We have made Charanjit Attwal the deputy speaker, who is from this community,” he said.

Asked if the state was on high alert, Badal said the cops were always vigilant. “The intelligence wing does not have a thermometer to nab the real culprits all the time but are doing their best,” said Badal.
