Recruitment of young and talented faculty will be high on the agenda of the Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur (IIT-K) during the four-day Pan IIT Summit at Chicago that begins on October 9. To attract bright faculty members, the institute has prepared a special project, expected to be announced during the summit.
“We need young and talented faculty, and for the purpose we have prepared a project. Our USA-based alumni will provide assistance in solving the problem of staff crunch at IITs,” said Sanjay Govind Dhande, director, IIT-K.
Referring to several talented teachers of Indian origin who are working in foreign institutes and universities, Dhande added: “If such teachers are willing to come to the IITs, we will make efforts on our part to provide them with the best possible package and placement.”
More than 3,000 IIT alumni attend the annual Pan IIT Summit, with 225 IIT-K pass outs already having given their consent to attend the Chicago summit.
This year, three IIT-K faculty members — Director Dhande, Dean of Resources and Planning Sanjeev Agrawal and Head of Department for Computer Sciences Munindra Agrawal — will attend the summit. Former deputy director of IIT-K Kripa Shankar will represent the IIT-K Alumni Association at the meet.
For the summit, the Pan IIT Alumni Association has prepared a five-point agenda.
“The agenda called ‘Panch-ratna’ is related to the progress of IITs and projects which could help in the development of the country. Many of our memorandums of understanding (MoU) are with foreign universities, and the alumni play an important role in forming collaboration with foreign institutes,” added Dhande.
