Performing true to her reputation, Geeta Rai of Varanasi Zone outclassed the other competitors clocking 5:08.94 seconds to claim the 1500m gold in the 58th UP Police Athletics Championship 2009 which commenced at 35th Battalion PAC, Mahanagar, Lucknow on Wednesday. Meena Chauhan of Agra Zone clocked 7:09.30 seconds to grab the silver.

The 1500m gold in the men’s section went to Indresh Kumar of Meerut Zone who clocked 4:16.59 seconds. Sunil Kumar of PAC West Zone clinched the silver with a timing of 4:19.52 seconds.

Pushpendra Singh (long jump), Deepak Singh (shot put), Vikas Singh (high jump) and Vinesh (discus throw) claimed golds in their respective events. The championship was inaugurated by senior vice president RK Tiwari (IPS). The UP Police players who had won medals in the All India Police Meet were also honoured during the inaugural ceremony.
