The last days of Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Hemant Karkare were probably some of the busiest in his 26-year career in the Indian Police Service (IPS), and apparently tormented as well.

The ATS believed it had cracked the September 29 Malegaon bomb blast case, and about a month ago arrested Hindu extremists in a breakthrough that shocked the nation and added a new twist to the entire discourse on terror and religion.

But as the probe unravelled the alleged plot and the role of some Hindu leaders, the case got caught in the politics of terror and the ATS was at the centre of charges that it was being used as a tool to target the Sangh Parivar amid allegations of illegal detention and torture by some of the 11 arrested for the blast.

The BJP, RSS and VHP leaders, among others from the Hindu nationalist brigade, accused the ATS of being on a witch-hunt, with some even demanding that ATS officers be subjected to a narco-analysis to establish their motives.

No less a leader than the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate, L K Advani, had demanded a change in the ATS team and a judicial inquiry into the torture allegations made by Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, a key suspect in the Malegaon case.

The Shiv Sena too had come out in support of the suspects and on Wednesday had threatened in its mouthpiece Saamna that it would publish the names of some ATS officers and shame them as it said they had tortured the Malegaon suspects.

    ... contd.

KTBy: RAFEEK | 18-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward No doubt, the culprit behind this killing is LeT or other Pakistani Terrorist groups. But the issue is not "who killed?" but "For whom killed?". Most of the recent terror attacks are just "qotation terror" sponsored by forces behind curtains with deep conspiracy. Terrorist do their qoutation work beautifully, leaving hardly any prof to trace those who have given qoutation. These attacks has nothing to do with relegion or nationality, but cleverly utilised for their operation. Alqaida hit WTC with very good planning but 80% of Israeli workers unbelievably escaped, because all of them were absent on the particular day! LeT successfully hit Mumbai leaving Hementh Karkare "finished" (He got an anonymous threat a day before that "he will be finished soon" !!). But surely, oneday this conspiracy of terrorists with their sponsors will be revealed, not by a police or judicial enquiry, but by some other strange incidents!.
Who Killed Karkare?By: Sudha | 03-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward I recently read the book Who Killed Karkare, written by a former Inspector General of Maharashtra. It is extremely sad that we hindus killed a hindu! If there are hindu terrorists we must face them, fight them and remove terrorism by the roots so that we may proudly say once more that a hindu cannot be a terrorist! If we dont fight them and blame others, what will be the difference between us and the others?
Un matched proffessional commitmentBy: BABU AS | 11-May-2009 Reply | Forward Irrespective to what peple say every terrorist ,whether hindu or muslim ia an anti social elemmnet and aliability to society. Karkare has proved that no relegion is imune to terror training. After his raining in some anyasins and aswamis no terror bomb exploded in traim or bus which shows that he has booked the real culprit.I appreciate his courage and commitment in action of arresting a servingmilitary intelligence officer in this country it is not possible to take action aganist even an erring poloce consatble,I salute him
Karkare’s response to a death threat: A 'smiley'By: RAVI | 11-May-2009 Reply | Forward It is very unfortunate that we missed a brave hearted officer like Mr Hemant Karakare and others..It also sounds very bad (and not true )to hear that Hindu and Hindu agenda parties killed Mr Karkare. It is said that ATS was working under the direction of Mr Sharad Pawar and under the orders of RR PATIL, THE THEN hOME mINISTER.Under these politicians directions,it is heard that Pradnya SINGH tHAKUR AND OTHERS ARE BOOKED AS Terrorost.and was a POLITICAL MOVE TO IMPRESS mUSLIMS and misguide the people at large that Hindus are terrorist.Mr Pawar is a political ambitious leader and he can go to any extent to get votes of Muslims by creating a wrong impressions about Hindus. Many people say that Mr Pawar and his Home Minister Mr RR Patil were the people behind these peoples death.Mr Antulay wanted to say the same thing to the people at large but he was then compelled not to raise this issue,it is said. The role of politicians in this regard needs to examined by CBI
