  • The government has decided to reorganise the Anti-Terror Squad to make it more effective. But it does not seem to encompass frequent changes and handing over ATS postings as additional charges.

On Sunday, the Inspector General (Lucknow Zone) AK Jain, who was holding the additional charge of ATS chief, and ATS Deputy Inspector General Rajiv Krishna, who had additional charge of Lucknow PAC, were asked to hand over their ATS charges. The reason cited was that the work of the squad required undivided attention.

On Tuesday, Jain was again given the additional charge of ATS and the chief minister’s security while Rajiv Krishna was handed over the charge of ATS at Faizabad.

Asked about the changes within two days, Home Secretary Mahesh Gupta said: “The transfer order on Sunday night was issued with a different thought and the one done later on with a different one.”

Apart from Jain and Rajiv Krishna, other senior officers have been given additional charges of ATS. SN Singh, Inspector General of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), has been given additional charge of ATS at Kanpur.

Similarly, Commandants of 32 and 35 battalions of PAC at Lucknow — Jyoti Narayan and Alok Singh — have been given additional charges of SSP, ATS, at Kanpur and Lucknow.

DIG and SSP at Allahabad Ajay Anand and Rajiv Sabbarwal will also have the additional charge of ATS at Allahabad.
