ATS: Suspects had done recce of other spots too

The men arrested by the Delhi Police in connection with the JM Road serial blasts case had also done a recce of some other spots. The fact came to light in the submission made by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) after receiving the custody of the four suspects on Thursday. The suspects have been remanded in police custody till January 1.

The four suspects, who were arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell in connection with the low-intensity serial blasts on the Jangali Maharaj Road on August 1, were handed over to the ATS on Thursday morning.

On the evening of August 1, four improvised explosive devices (IEDs) had gone off at four different spots, injuring one person near the gate of the Balgandharva Rangmandir. In the subsequent searches by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, two unexploded IEDs were found.

In October, the Delhi Police arrested Asad Jamshed Khan (33) of Aurangabad, Imran Khan (32) of Nanded, Syed Feroz alias Hamza (38) of Shukrawar Peth in Pune and Irfan Mustafa Landage (30) of Nagar in connection with the blasts. One more person, Syed Maqbool alias Zuber of Dharmabad in Nanded, was held based on the information provided by the four. The cell had also claimed to have recovered explosives from some of them and said they were planning more attacks in the country.

On Thursday, a special team from the Delhi Police brought the suspects to the court of S S Bose, Judicial Magistrate First Class, in Pune under heavy security and handed them over to the Maharashtra ATS. In the afternoon, they were again produced in the court with even heavier security and their custody for 14 days was requested.

In his remand application, investigating officer ACP Samad Khan said the custody was required as the ATS had found in the primary investigation that the suspects had also carried out a recce of various spots in the city other than the J M Road and further probe was needed into it. ATS officers, however, refused to specify the spots.
