Ninale said though the placement drives are conducted every year, this is the first time that such students will also be included in the drive. “We will invite those who didn’t clear Class XII this year and last year. There are around 400 such students in 89 city junior colleges’ vocational courses,” he said.

Maharashtra Education Society’s (MES) Garware College is a partner in this initiative and will provide its audio-visual hall for the placement drive. “We liked the idea and decided to support it. Students can use their skills while working in a company and even pursue higher education with open universities,” said chairman of governing council of MES Ravindra Vanjarwadkar.

“There are job opportunities for students of vocational courses in areas such as automobile, mechanical and even accounts and back office,” he said. “These companies need around 3,000 skilled workers immediately. We hope the companies can find around 600 eligible candidates.

“The students will have to register in their respective colleges to attend the placement drive and need to be above 18 years of age. Students of modular employable skills scheme will have to register at electronics department of government technical school at Ghole Road,” said Ninale.
