The auto-rickshaw unions in the city met the transport authorities on Monday to present a list of their complaints regarding the increase in CNG prices. Earlier,the transport authority had sent letters to all the auto-rickshaw unions asking them to supply a list of their grievances,based on which the authority will send its recommendations to the government by the end of the month.
With the prices of CNG set to rise by more than Rs 5,the auto-rickshaw unions in the city had threatened to go on a strike.
Representative from about 30 unions attended the meeting,chaired by Additional Commissioner (Transport) A K Singh.
Most of the unions had similar issues the hike in rates and the introduction of waiting charges at red lights. We want the starting amount (meter down) to be Rs 20 and then each kilometre at Rs 8. We have also said they have to start the meter charges at red lights too, said Ravinder Soni,president of a union .
At present,the auto starting charge for the first kilometre is Rs 10 and then Rs 4.50 for the next kilometres.
