Tufail Ahmad Matoo,17,was killed by a police teargas shell that hit him in the head, doctors who conducted the autopsy on him have confirmed.
The doctors have said in their autopsy report that Tufail was hit by an object with a circular base that acted like a bullet, reference to a teargas shell, sources said.
The report also mentions signs of burnt hair on his head indicating that he was hit by the tear smoke canister from a close range.
Sources said the doctors came to the conclusion after matching dimensions of the object that killed Tufail with those of a tear smoke canister. They sought a live shell from SP,Police Control Room and matched it with the dimensions on Tufails head. They were found to be matching, a source who had access to the autopsy report said.
The report was prepared two days ago,but Deputy Commissioner,Srinagar Mehraj-ud-din Kakroo,to whom it is to be submitted, claimed he had not received it. It has not been submitted as of now, Kakroo told The Indian Express. We are expecting it by tomorrow (Tuesday).
Kakroo, however, maintained the autopsy was conducted in a professional and transparent manner.
The autopsy was carried out by a team of four-five doctors in presence of a magistrate, Kakroo said. The team included officials from the Health Department and two doctors recommended by the family of the victim. The entire autopsy proceedings were videographed.
