Avatar,An Education and The Hurt have each bagged top nominations at the upcoming Bafta Film Awards.

Avatar,An Education and The Hurt have each bagged top nominations at the upcoming Bafta Film Awards.

The films will be up against Up In The Air and Precious: Based On The Novel Push by Sapphire in the Best Film category.

Avatar’s James Cameron and his ex-wife,The Hurt Locker’s Kathryn Bigelow,will compete with Neill Blomkamp for District 9,Quentin Tarantino for Inglourious Basterds and Lone Scherfig for An Education for the Best Director trophy,reports the Telegraph.

Nominations for the Leading Actress included Carey Mulligan for An Education,Saoirse Ronan for The Lovely Bones,Gabourey Sidibe for Precious,Meryl Streep for Julie & Julia and Audrey Tautou for Coco Before Chanel.

Competing for the Leading Actor title will be Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart),George Clooney for Up In The Air,Colin Firth for A Single Man,Jeremy Renner for The Hurt Locker and Andy Serkis for in Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll.

The ceremony is due to take place at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden on February 21.
