Chidambaram has described Babri Masjid demolition an act of religious fanaticism.

Terming demolition of Babri Masjid as an act of religious fanaticism and extreme prejudice, Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday said communalism in all its forms was deplorable and asserted that it was the duty of the majority community to protect the minorities.

He also said that adopting the path of violence in the name of religion must be deplored. In an address to the 30th general session of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind at Islamic seminary Deoband here, Chidambaram hailed the 'fatwa' issued by it against terrorism last year and said it was not only Muslims but also for all right thinking people to follow it.

"While all manifestations of communalism are deplorable, the worst kind of communalism is unleashing communal violence," he said. The Home Minister said violence and violent means to achieve any objective is the anti-thesis of a civilized society governed by the rule of law.

"The demolition of the Babri Masjid was a manifestation of religious fanaticism and an act of extreme prejudice. Likewise, taking to the path of violence in the name of religion must also be deplored in unequivocal term," he said.

Chidambaram said he was glad to note that the Darul Ulloom at Deoband issued a 'fatwa' against terrorism on February 25, 2008 and categorically stated that 'Islam rejects all kinds of unwarranted violence, breach of peace, bloodshed, killing and plunder and does not allow it in any form'.

"I regard that decree as a call to duty to not only Muslims but to all right thinking people. I would urge that more voices be raised, loudly and clearly, against terrorism and all forms of violence," Chidambaram said.

Since ancient times in India By: George P. Joseph | 05-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward In the times of Mughal Empire and British Empire, Hindus have been contiguous to foreigners. A dominated rule of continuous years alike the Empires may not be possible since people are running after democracy and the One Man%u2019s rule is discretional. Even if Akbar honored inter-religious worships the freedom to other religions might be restricted for the interest of his own religion. To enjoy a dominated rule of Hindus, federal systems may be shattered in future in India. A tyrant rule of other religion based Leader is a phobia for every person who go through such a situation. Since no Minority may act forcefully against the majority of peoples, the minority should come forward for a pleasant settlement with regard to the life of every people irrespective of religion as far as the Hindus are dwellers since ancient times in India and have been cordoned.
Babri Masjid demolition act of religious fanaticism: PCBy: N.V.SANKARAN | 05-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward I don't understand the logic of the Home Minister's argument that religious violence is more despicable than all other types of violence. Violence irrespective of the reason behind it is a shame for civilized society irrespective of whether it is political, social or religious. The victims suffer in any case. As far as the Babri demolition is concerned, I think the issue has become more political than religious for the congress and secular parties. Irrespective of whether there was a Ram temple at that place and irrespective of whether Babur demolished the temple or not, the fact remains that Ayodhya, Mathura and Kashi are as sacred to the devout Hindus as Mecca and Medina are for the Muslims and Behtlehem and Jerusalem for the Christians. Considering that the Hindus(not the anglicized secular Hindus, but true devout Hindus)revere these as the holiest places, if the Muslim community of India accept and understand the Hindu sentiments, much of this conflict can be resolved.
who are fanaticsBy: suchithra | 05-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward The Rig Veda, says `Truth is One,but the sages speak of it by many names.'A Hindu believes there are many paths to God.Jesus is one way,the Quran is another, yoga practice is a third.None is better than any other;all are equal. Ph. D. By: Dr. D. Prithipaul | 04-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward That the Deoband folk denounced terrorisn is not a favour done to the Hindus. They are only doing what primarily benefits them. It is the same logic of those who claimed that not admitting Turkey to the European Union would provide a reason for the rise of Islamic fundamentalism. The French have rightly argued that a secular Turkey is for the good of the Turkish people and the EU must not feel indebted to Turkish secularism . The Babri affair is the continuation of the iconoclastic tradition of the Muslims. They ought to ask why is it essential for their faith to persist in maintaining a symbol of their earlier iconoclasm in 'secular' India. It is also high time to ask the Muslims to tell the country if their obliteration of Buddhism in India has enhanced the culture of the country. The irony is that as a minority they ravaged the culture of the majority and still claim that they are the victims of Hindus. And the Congress has endorsed this reversal of history. What a shame!
