Babloo gets life term for Customs officer’s death

Underworld don Babloo Srivastav was on Tuesday sentenced to life imprisonment by a TADA court in Kanpur in connection with the murder of a Customs officer in Allahabad 15 years ago.

Apart from the don, who was held guilty of plotting Assistant Customs Collector L D Arora’s murder, two others — K K Saini and Manjeet Singh alias Mange Sardar — were also handed life term by TADA judge Subash Chandra.

The case dates back to March 24, 1993, when Arora was murdered while he was driving back home in Allahabad. After an initial investigation by the Allahabad police, the case was handed over to the CBI in July 1993. In June 1994, the Delhi Police arrested Saini in a different case. During interrogation, he reportedly admitted his involvement in the Arora killing.

According to the CBI, Babloo was in Nepal at the time. CBI counsel Y K Saxena said that Babloo had provided a car and a pistol to his two aides to execute the murder. Babloo was arrested in Singapore in 1995, and deported to India on August 30, 1995. Mange Sardar was arrested by Kolkata Police in 2001.

Babloo said he would soon “file an appeal in the High Court.”
