Baby dies after vaccination in Shirur

District health officials have collected samples of the vaccines for conducting lab tests.

A three-and-a-half month old baby died after being vaccinated at a primary health care (PHC) center in Shirur taluka of Pune district.

The baby boy Harshal Chintamani Jadhav,resident of Dhamari village in Shirur taluka,was given vaccinations of polio and hepatitis along with 43 more babies at a PHC sub center in Shirur on Wednesday.

The parents later noticed that the boy was unwell and rushed him to a private hospital in Shikrapur. The baby was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctors at the hospital. The body was sent to Sassoon General hospital for postmortem.

Dr R D Shinde,taluka health officer,said that a team of health department of Zilla Parishad conducted check-up of all other babies who were vaccinated along with Harshal Jadhav. He said that all other babies were found to be in good state.

Meanwhile,district health officials have collected samples of the vaccines for conducting lab tests. About two months earlier,a baby had similarly died after vaccination at Bhamburde village in Shirur.
