Bachmann first woman contender in 2012 race

US Rep Michele Bachmann,an outspoken Republican with close ties to the conservative tea party movement,announced late Monday that she is running for president.

The first female contender to enter the 2012 race,Bachmann announced her bid during the Republican presidential debate in New Hampshire. The third-term Minnesota congresswoman has been leaning heavily toward a run over the past few months. Bachmann drew one of loudest applause Monday night from a Republican debate audience when she predicted Obama would not win re-election. He is a one-term president, she declared.
