This festival will have new stories told,some old ones retold and perhaps inspire many to write one. With over 160 films from 48 countries the eighth Pune International Film Festival is expected to attract film lovers from across the state.

The next ten days will take you on visual trip with the 8th Pune film festival bringing the best of stories from around the world

This festival will have new stories told,some old ones retold and perhaps inspire many to write one. With over 160 films from 48 countries the eighth Pune International Film Festival is expected to attract film lovers from across the state.

The 10-day celebration besides films will also host interactions with filmmakers,exhibitions on film posters and so on. In the fortcoming days,audience will be treated to the following films:

* The inaugural film Darbareye Elly, About Elly was screened yesterday post the grand inaugration by veteran director Dev Anand. Directed by Asghar Farhadi its a story of a group of young friends from Teheran who take a three-day break at a Caspian beach resort. It’s one of those rare films that can on one level purely be a satisfying drama,but that which encompasses a rich,independent inner life,centred on questions about right and wrong,social coercion and the lies people tell themselves and each other.

* Set in 1918 and Finland’s civil war yet another film Tears of April bring out a stirring testament to the possibility of human connection even in the most inhuman circumstances.

* Gergely Fonyo’s Made in Hungaria is a musical about 1960s-era Communism and the inceptions of rock ‘n’ roll behind the Iron Curtain.

* The Cannibals by Manoel de Oliveira shoots at the dissection of upper-class values as an opera,complete with mechanical limbs falling off,musical interludes and the cannibalism that the title promises.

* A year ago in winter is a powerful story in which the tragic loss of a loved one that becomes the catalyst for each family member to rediscover themselves and redefine their relationships.

* I saw the sun recounts the experiences of three families as they struggle to find peace in alien surrounding Hans-Christian Schmid in his film Storm shows how political decisions are placed over individual’s lives.

* Aradhana,Zanjeer ,Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam will be screened as a tribute to the movie’s director’s.

* Anand,Pinjra,Pratidhwandi will be shown as lifetime achiever awardees’ films.

* Rita,Pasanga,Do BighaZameen,Basundhara-The Earth,A Cup Of Tea,Angshuman’s Film,Anarkali,Natrang will be some of the other Indian entries.

* Samana directed by Jabbar Patel will be shown as a tribute to Nilue Phule & Bhaskar Chandawarkar.
