The need for providing practical training and ensuring greater job security for freshers has led Baddi University of Emerging Science and Technology (BUEST) to design a new programme aimed at skill development of its students for the upcoming batch.

"We are starting a U (University) and I (Industry) course, which means the university course or the classroom education integrated with the Industry course that has real life implementations," said Prof Lavi Raj Gupta, vice-chancellor, BUEST at a press conference organised by the university with Taleem Academy and Baddi Barotiwala Industries Association at PHD Chamber of Commerce on Thursday.

Emphasising on the gap between knowledge pool and its employability, the University will offer the unique course for students of engineering, sciences and pharmacy. They claim that the prospective students are enthusiastic and companies like North Star, Virtuoso and IndiaMART have shown interest.

"A fresher takes time to adopt to an industry. So we have proposed a course, what we call 'academic adoption', led by industry needs. There is no osmotic layer between these students and our continuing regular course's students and there is no specific number of seat intake or extra fee. A student could shift in any semester to the special course depending upon the industry need," says J P Hasrajani, CEO of Taleem University.

"The students are to be paid a stipend for the work they will be doing for these companies but the course should not be confused as a part-time or a correspondence course," Gupta added.
