The supporters of SAD councillor Simarjeet Singh Bains seemed to have missed a chance to show their loyalty to their leader.
Bains, whose case for extension in judicial remand came up for hearing yesterday, was not brought to the local court. The judge concerned ordered 14-day remand for Bains and his accomplice Kamajit Singh Karwal in the jail deori itself.
The case will now come for hearing on September 10.
Jail Superintendent Roop Kumar Arora said, “This hearing is called kacchi peshi. In such cases, the undertrials are not taken to court and judge announces the next dates on the jail premises.” During his last court appearance, the supporters of Bains had showered him with flower petals and had raised slogans on the court premises creating a ruckus of sorts.
Meanwhile, Balwinder Singh Bains, elder sibling of Simerjeet Singh Bains, said, "I have not applied for bail as yet for I want investigation done in the case. We are preparing our case and would be submitting the same to the Chief Minister and the DGP."
When asked that the Punjab Police had conducted an inquiry into this case through a Special Investigating Team and why should the same agency conduct another inquiry, Bains said, "The dust clouding the case has now settled and new facts may come to light. We should all wait and see." Bains, however, refused to comment on what kind of new facts he was talking about.
Simerjeet Bains and Karwal are currently lodged in the Central Jail for alleged attack on Revenue Officer Maj G S Benipal (Retd) that took place in full public view on June 19.
