Bajrang Dal, Hindustan Shiv Sena demand ban on OMG screening in Jammu

Demanding ban on the screening of the film 'Oh My God' for alleged anti-religious content, Bajrang Dal and Hindustan Shiv Sena activists today held protests and tore posters of the film in cinema halls here.

Led by District coordinator Bajrang Dal, Rakesh Sharma, over 100 activists tore and removed the film posters from the walls of cinema halls, while HSS members burnt director Umesh Shukla's effigy.

Bajrang Dal workers also briefly clashed with police, who objected to removal of the posters in cinema halls.

"We are demanding ban on the screening of the film OMG due to anti-religious depiction of various characters. There have been scene in the film in which waters from holy Ganges have been mixed with liquor and God and Goddesses have been portrayed in bad language," Sharma told reporters here today.

"The Hindu society will not tolerate this at all...film industry should stop portrayal of Gods and Goddesses in bad picture," he said, adding, "J&K government and other states should ban the screening of the film otherwise Bajrang Dal would intensify its agitation."

Over 80 activists of Hindustan Shiv Sena also took out protest rally in the city and raised anti-OGM slogans demanding ban on the film.

The movie has generated controversy over depiction of Hindu Gods and Indian spiritual traditions. Complaints have been lodged against the lead actors for hurting religious sentiments of Hindus, and a notice was also sent to them.

'Oh My God' is a 2012 Bollywood fantasy-comedy movie that satires organised religion. It is produced by Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal and based on a Gujarati play called Kanji Virudh (vs) Kanji, and with a plot similar to that of the Australian film The Man Who Sued God.
