The family and supporters of alleged Khalistan terrorist Balwant Singh Rajoana, who has been sentenced to death for the assassination of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, will meet Jathedar Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan Singh on Monday to apprise him about Singh's will, where he has left everything he owned to the Akal Takht.

Singh, as per the court, is to be hanged on March 31 though he state government has expressed its inability to execute the court order for the want of a hangman.

Meanwhile, attempts of the Delhi Sikh Gurdawara Management Committee (DSGMC) to seek pardon for Singh seem to be bearing no fruit. "We had sent a person to Rajoana's family, urging them to sign a petition seeking pardon for him but the family has refused to sign the petition," said DSGMC president Paramjeet Singh Sarna.

On the other hand, MP Ravneet Singh Bittu — who is also the grandson of the late CM — said: "The family met on Sunday in Chandigarh after we read reports about pardoning Balwant Singh. No one has approached us for pardon and how can we pardon a man who announces that he wants to die and does not believe in the Indian Constitution? We did not hire a lawyer to fight the case. The CBI has fought this case and the law is to take its own course."

Kamlajeet Kaur, Singh's foster sister, said: "The family met Balwant on Saturday and he is in very high spirits. He has been reading the newspaper and knows the status of his case. He claims that such news do not bother him and he was prepared to die."

Asked about DSGMC president Paramjeet Singh Sarna's efforts to seek pardon for Balwant, Kamaljeet said: "Neither we nor Balwant are concerned with this. We have not asked for pardon from any one."
