Bangladeshi photographer of international repute Dr Shahidul Alam was arrested by personnel of the 21 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday evening after he crossed the Indo-Bangladesh international boundary and trespassed into Indian territory.
Alam, also director of the Dhaka-based Drik Photo Agency, was caught while crossing the Indo-Bangladesh boundary near the Shahpara border outpost of the BF under Mankachar police station in Dhubri district in western Assam. The incident happened at around 6 pm on Tuesday. “He however admitted his mistake and accepted his fault to our officers. We have already held a meeting with our counterparts in the 6 Bangladesh Rifles across the border in the Dhubri sector. He will be released later today evening,” said BSF spokesperson Ravi Gandhi at Shillong.
Alam was caught while crossing the boundary on foot. There were two other persons with him, but they were on the other side of the international boundary while Alam crossed over “inadvertently”, the BSF official added.
