Bank manager’s death: Rly cops to check suicide angle, seek call data records

The Vasai railway police, probing the death of a branch manager of Ramdev Park branch of UCO Bank in Mira Road, have sought call data records of the deceased to find out whom he spoke to before his death. Vilas Dattaram Narsade, 57, Thane resident, died on the rail tracks near the Mira Road station after being hit by a local train on Wednesday.

Though the police have filed an accidental death report, they are now probing if he committed suicide.

While Narsade's wife, Aruna, had told the police that the death was an accident, the police on Wednesday said his friends had claimed the bank management had told Narsade that he would not get his post-retirement benefits if the companies whose loans he cleared did not repay.

"His family and friends have said that Narsade had been tense in the past few weeks. He was worried that he would not get his pension as the bank had not recovered the loan amount from the companies whose loans he had cleared. His call records can throw some light on the case," said an officer from the Vasai GRP.

Police said Narsade reported for work at 11 am on Wednesday. After about 10 minutes, he told his colleagues he was going to the bank's Churchgate head office and went to Mira Road railway station where he was hit by a train. He suffered severe head injuries. Narsade's friend Laxman Singh Mehta, who was at the spot, informed his wife.

Narsade was taken to Mira Bhayandar Municipal Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The Narsades have two daughters, one of whom studies in London and the other stays with them.

Meanwhile, R Seetharaman, zonal manager, UCO Bank, said the police is yet to contact the bank management. "There was no pressure of any kind on him from the bank," he said.
