  • Bank unions have called for country wide bank strike on December 16 protesting against the merger of State Bank of Indore with the State Bank of India.

The All India Banks Employees Association (AIBEA) and All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA) which are opposing the proposed merger said they have also organised a morcha to the Parliament on December 3 to force the government to reverse the merger.

C H Venkatachalam, general secretary, AIBEA and R J Sridharan, general secretary, AIBOA said the nation wide bank strike call has been given in support of various demands.

They said the service conditions of the employees working in the merged banks would be at the mercy of the bank management post the merger.

union leaders are selfishBy: b raju | 17-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward The bank union leaders are selfish and self centered. In PNB the officers union leader is a retired person who is not interested in the welfare of the officers. Bank officers & employees should dump these so called leaders and start a fresh union for talks with the management. The IBA should also be aware that in service industry human resource is very important and morale is low due to the lowest wage in the entire service industry.IBA should have a long term view and should not cut corners by way of wage curtailment.
banks unionBy: omnath tandon | 17-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward union leaders are more worried about merger and acquisition they should concentrate on wage revision which is over delayed otherwise bank's staff will not participate in further strikes and unions are loosing credibility by new demands like compensate appointments
Bank employees strike on December 16,2009By: sakaria | 16-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward The bank unions are acting against the interests of the employees and the nation. A few years ago the Government introduced a VRS for bank employees which the unions opposed tooth and nail and also prevented the government from giving pension option to the VRS optees. Are the unions working against the interests of the employees. The government is ready to give pension option to all employees and ex-employees. Why the unions are not signing the agreement? Let the government give pension to all employees and recruit younger people which is in the interest of the banks and the people in general.
Bank Employees Strike-on December 16-2009By: B R Prasad | 15-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Why Bank Employees Strike on 16th December 2009?I feel it is not justified.Keeping Global changes in International Banking and with the introduction modern type of Banking like ATMs and Internet Banking, and reducing the need of the Customers to execute their transactions by going to Bank Branches,I feel mergers of banks should not be opposed.Bank Unions like AIBEA and AIBOA still sticking to their out moded methods of protests like Stikes will serve no purpose simply because Indian National Congress Party which first Nationalised 14 Private Sector Banks in 1969 terming it as a Socialistic Act,had itself shed its Socialistic Fabric and donned Commercial Fabric ready to adopt any Policy or Act that can protect its Political survival.Keeping The Bulldozing majority of Congress Party and its allies and weakining of the left Parties like The CPI,CPM,its doubtful if any useful purpose will be served by resorting to Strikes. Its wise to accept reality rather then to swim against against tide
