One of the hottest topics of speculation on Raisina Hill these days is choice of the next RBI Governor. All sorts of rumours are afloat, ranging from an extension for Y V Reddy to considering outside experts for the coveted job. However, Finance Secretary D V Subba Rao is by consensus considered the frontrunner in case the Government decides against Reddy getting an extension. For Rao, though, it may present a a toss-up because he is also in line for Cabinet Secretary. He is said to be consulting close friends and many feel he should go for the governor’s post but only if the Government gives him a full term.
