To prevent wastage of water this summer,the civic authorities in Chandigarh and Mohali have imposed a ban on washing cars and courtyards and watering lawns in the morning hours (5.30 to 9 am).
The ban would come into effect from April 1 and continue till June 30.
The violation of the ban would attract penalty and could lead to disconnection of the water supply. Leakage in the overhead water tank,personal waterlines and booster pumps installed on the water meter would also attract penalty.
For the first violation,a notice would be issued. If the offence is repeated,a fine of Rs 500 would be slapped to be added to the water bill and equipment like hose pipe or booster pump would be confiscated. For the third violation,the water connection would be disconnected.
The disconnected water connection would be restored only after a proof and affidavit that the misuse of water has been stopped is submitted with the connection fee and penalty (Rs 500).
H P S Dhillon,executive engineer of the Water Supply and Sanitation department,Mohali,said from April 1,field officials would conduct surprise checks in the city.
Similarly,teams have been constituted in Chandigarh. R K Goyal,Senior Engineer (public health) of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation,said,We have constituted 13 teams,which would conduct checks in various parts of the city from 5.30 to 8.30 am. Each team would be headed by a sub-divisional officer (SDO) and comprise a junior engineer and labourers.
