Bansal inaugurates community centre
Union Minister for Railways Pawan Kumar Bansal on Sunday dedicated a newly constructed community centre in Sector 22 to the public. This is the 41 st community centre in the city.
The community centre is the first of its kind in the city having outer and inner design of a hotel. It has a fully air conditioned hall with a capacity of 300 persons, a bride room, a modular kitchen, an office room, a library with a computer facility, a musical gymnasium, badminton courts, a table tennis room etc.
An e-sampark centre will be made operational within two months and booking of the community centre for marriage purposes and other programmes will be started from next month. More than 60 cars will be parked inside the community centre and the lawns are spacious enough to provide an open space for marriage and other purposes.
Mayor Raj Bala Malik, Municipal Commissioner V P Singh, area councillor Pardeep Chhabra and other councillors and officers were present on the occasion. Chhabra said that the community centre was developed at a cost of Rs 2.25 crore. Parking facility for 50 four-wheelers and 30 two-wheelers is present.
Addressing the gathering, Bansal said that this centre will be very useful for the local residents to hold their social programmes. He said that local residents who cannot afford the marriage palaces in the outskirts of the city can now have a very good option in their own area to organize their programmes according to their budget.
He said that with the facility of a gym and a badminton court and table tennis room, the area residents and children have the option to undertake a number of activities under one roof. He said that the Municipal Corporation should make access to the community centre more easy by framing people-friendly bylaws. He asked the officers of the civic body to appoint trainers in the gymnasium and coaches for games. A librarian should be appointed in the libraries in the centres wherever required, he added.
