Bar council appreciates allocation for legal reforms

The Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa has welcomed the union government’s approval in the Union Budget to disburse Rs 5,000 crore to the states under the National Mission for Delivery of Justice and Legal Reforms.

The Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa has welcomed the union government’s approval in the Union Budget to disburse Rs 5,000 crore to the states under the National Mission for Delivery of Justice and Legal Reforms. The amount will also be utilised to strengthen alternate dispute resolution mechanisms. The objective of the mission is to help reduce legal backlog in courts from an average of 15 years at present to 3 years by 2012.

“It is a welcome step taken by the union government that will help in building confidence in the judiciary,” said advocate Nandu Phadke,former vice-chairman of Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa.

He said that the money allotted to the states should be utilised for upgradation of court administration and improvised system of recruitment of judges.
