There is some good news for aspirants who wish to pursue the five-year law course from Panjab University. The Bar Council of India has increased the sanctioned strength of University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) from 135 to 180.
A statement to this effect was made by a counsel of the UT Administration before the Punjab and Haryana High Court. It has been stated before the court that the additional 45 seats will be advertised and filled shortly.
Counselling for admission to these seats will commence on November 5.
The announcement was made in the wake of a petition filed by an aspirant who had demanded that the vacant NRI seats be converted into general category, which the UT Administration strongly opposed.
During the course of hearing of the petition, however, the Bar Council of India increased the sanctioned strength of UILS from 135 to 180.
