  • Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashraf Shenthoo has completed his inquiry into the death of four youth in police firing in North Kashmir ‘s Baramulla town on June 29 and 30. He will submit his report to Baramulla Deputy Commissioner Lateef-u-Zaman Deva on Sunday.

“The report has already been completed. The inquiry officer, most probably, will submit his report to the Deputy Commissioner on July 26,” said an officer associated with the inquiry.

In the last 20 days, several police and CRPF officers and around 40 people, including some eyewitnesses, were questioned by the Inquiry Officer. Shenthoo had also been asked to probe the allegations made by a local woman of misbehaviour by policemen at Baramulla police station on June 28. Sources said the IO found the allegations of the woman to be baseless. However, according to sources, Shenthoo has evidence to suggest that the troops violated the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) while dealing with the mob on June 29. Eyewitnesses claimed that they had seen men in uniform opening fire on the protestors.
