Barley prices plunged by Rs 21 or 1.86 per cent to Rs 1,111 per quintal in futures trade today following aggressive selling by traders at prevailing higher levels.
Marketmen said,poor demand from beer and cattle-feed makers along with heavy supply from growing regions in physical markets,squeezed the futures prices of barley.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) counter,barley prices for September-month contract plummeted Rs 21 or 1.86 per cent to Rs 1,111 per quintal,showing an open interest of 20 lots.
May contract followed suit and dipped by Rs 16.20 or 1.53 per cent to Rs 1,041.80 per quintal,with an open interest of 12,880 lots.
