The BCCI is finally planning to break the language barrier for Indian coaches who often face problems while interpreting English lessons to cricketers.
The Hindi version of the BCCI’s recently launched coaching manual will be available for coaches across the country by 2010. NCA’s sports science expert Dr Kinjal Suratwala, one of the main contributors to the BCCI-NCA joint coaching manual, told The Indian Express that by this year end the Hindi version of the handbook will be released.
“The English version somehow can’t be accessible to the larger section of the country’s coaches and budding cricketers, since most of them hail from areas where language is the biggest factor. So, we are working on launching a Hindi version that solves the problem,” Suratwala said on the sidelines of a Level ‘A’ refresher course at the Eden Gardens.
And if the Hindi handbook succeeds, then they board and the NCA would explore the regional languages as well, said Dr Suratwala.
The board’s first-ever coaching manual was inaugurated by BCCI president Shashank Manohar on Friday at the technical committee meeting in Mumbai. The manual has technical lessons from a number of coaches including NCA director Dav Whatmore.
A huge section of the manual comprises techniques on player management, sports science and health-related matters, much of which has been contributed by Suratwala.
“The manual not only gives coaches expertise in cricket coaching, it also gives them a hang of how to handle medical and health-related matters. It’s compiled in a way suited for Indian coaches and cricketers,” Suratwala added.
