Ekta Chowdhry not one to take the beaten track

Here's a beauty queen whose winning the crown doesn't obviate foray into filmdom. “I am not interested in doing films,” Miss India Universe 2009 Ekta Chowdhry stated categorically on her visit to Lucknow on Thursday. A mention of television shows, reality or drama, elicits just a smile that says ‘thanks, but no, thanks!’

“I have my hands full since besides modelling I am involved in a number of social causes...AIDS awareness, relief to the shelterless, a project called condom.com that drives home the message of safe sex," she rattles in an expression of self contentment.

So, are there any political aspirations this grand daughter of former Delhi Chief Minister Chowdhry Brahm Prakash is nursing?

“No political ambitions either,” she confirms, declaring at the same time staunch support to the Congress. “Rahul Gandhi would make a very good prime minister. Look at the good work he is doing! But my political work would remain confined to supporting and at best campaigning for Congress candidates,” says the crowned beauty who finished far, far away from the Miss Universe crown. “There was no Asian in the top 10. Does that mean no Asian woman is beautiful enough? It is a global platform and it is best to accept and respect the judges’ decision,” she says, betraying no traces of remorse.

“Ekta was always appreciative of our range of products, so she was a natural choice to represent our brand," says Shriti Malhotra—who has studied in Loreto Convent, Lucknow—General Manager of The Body Shop. Their 30th outlet was launched at Saharaganj mall by Ekta on Thursday, much to the awe of the visitors who thronged the outlet for just a glimpse of her.
