Become Minister and work for people welfare: Chouhan to Rahul

"It would be better for him (Rahul) if he heads Tribal Ministry and works for the welfare of people," he said.

After Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan too has a word of advice for young Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.

“It would be better for him (Rahul) if he heads Tribal Ministry and works for the welfare of people instead of just visiting them,” Chouhan, who will become the first non-Congress Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh to complete five years in power on Monday (Nov 29),said.

Chouhan was responding to a question on the advice given by Kumar to Rahul during poll campaigning in Bihar – that instead of lecturing he should become a Chief Minister to gain experience in governance.

“Normally,I don’t comment on an individual. But merely visiting a few houses will not serve any purpose. Head the Tribal Welfare Department to ensure the welfare of people.

And you can do that as the government is in your hands,” the BJP leader said in an apparent reference to Rahul’s visits to Dalit localities and tribals.

“Merely saying that there is an India and a Bharat,or a rich India and a poor India, will not serve any purpose.

This is a time to act and not just speak.”

On the issue of persons rising fast in politics on the basis of their family background,Chouhan said there is no harm in giving chance to such people. But the tradition of giving highest post to a persons just because you are born in a particular family is not a practical proposition.

On the massive mandate for the JD(U)-BJP alliance in Bihar,Chouhan said people of that state have made it absolutely clear that they want solid work and not just talks of votebank, divisive and slogan-shouting politics.

“Before Bihar similar message was given by the people in Madhya Pradesh,Chhattisgarh and Delh.”

To a question on reshuffling his Council of Ministers,Chouhan said at present he don’t see any possibility of it.

He also said he is satisfied with the performance of his Ministers.

Asked about the perception that he was strongly opposed to the re-entry of Uma Bharti into BJP,he said it was not a fact. Whatever decision the party will take on the issue,he will abide by it.

On his wife Sadhna Singh’s political ambitions in view of the fact that she was recently appointed State BJP’s Mahila Morcha Vice-President,Chouhan just smiled and said it would be better if this question is put to her.
