Beggars try to rob woman, arrested

  • Two women beggars allegedly attempted to snatch the chain of a woman at her house in Sector 70 on Thursday, the police said.

    Nindi Singla reported to the police that around 3.30 pm someone rang the doorbell and when when she opened the door, two women beggars came inside and one of them snatched her gold chain while the other pushed her.

    “On hearing my cries, my husband immediately came to my rescue and caught hold of the beggars,” Singla said.

    The police were called in and the women were identified as Sakina and Shehjahan from Ajmer in Rajasthan.

    They were booked under Sections 379, 411, 356 and 34 of the IPC.

    Meanwhile, three other incidents of snatchings were also reported from different areas of Mohali district.

    In Zirakpur, three unidentified car-borne snatchers robbed an auto-rickshaw driver of Rs 1,850 and other valuables. Police said the auto was coming from Zirakpur to Chandigarh. When it reached near Sun Park Hotel in Zirakpur, some men in a white Maruti stopped the driver and robbed him.

    In Kharar, Sohan Lal of Sector 6 was robbed of his mobile phone and cash by a motorcycle-borne youth, who was later arrested and identified as Sunil Dutt of Kharar.

    In another incident, two youths snatched the wallet of Paramjit Singh of Phase VII when he was out for a morning walk near YPS Chowk in Phase VIII around 9.30 am.
