  • Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor has said the Centre will kick-start a pilot project next month under which passport seva kendras will be set up in different parts of the country, including West Bengal.

According to the minister, by the first half of 2010, 75,000 such offices will be set up of which five will be in West Bengal — two in Kolkata, one each in Siliguri, Kharagpur and Behrampore. The pilot project will be launched in Chandigarh and Bangalore.

Tharoor was speaking at an interactive session organised by the Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata on Saturday.
