Bengal will take back Singur land if BHEL shows green signal

The West Bengal government today said it would start the process of getting back the land from the Tatas in Singur if BHEL selects the site for setting up a mega power plant.

The West Bengal government today said it would start the process of getting back the land from the Tatas in Singur if BHEL selects the site for setting up a mega power plant. “I don’t think there will be any problem to get back the land from the Tata Motors Ltd,” Industry Minister Nirupam Sen told reporters on the sidelines of the Eastern Print Pack-2009 conference. Officials from BHEL had inspected the site in Singur earlier this month where the state government proposed to set up a 1,600 MW mega power plant as a joint venture.

On the other hand,Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee had said recently that the Railways would set up a rail coach factory in the site jointly with the state government or under the PPP model. Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, however, said the Railways had not sent any proposal to the government in this regard.
