Bengal won’t stop till Lalgarh clear

WB Govt declared that it will not stop the operation to flush out Maoists from Lalgarh till the entire Maoist-hit area was cleared of the rebels.

Even as the ruling Left Front on Thursday knocked on the doors of Raj Bhavan as victims of violence, the state Government declared that it will not stop the operation to flush out Maoists from Lalgarh till the entire Maoist-hit area, falling under the 18 police stations in the three districts of West Midnapore,Bankura and Purulia, was cleared of the rebels. The state Government also issued an appeal to the people of Lalgarh to go back to their villages and cooperate with the administration to restore normalcy in the area.

The appeal, written both in Bengali and Alchiki, will be air-dropped at Lalgarh from helicopters.

Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen said the state Government was ready to face the worst to get the Maoists out of the area. “The job is tough and it will be tougher day by day. The Maoists have said they will retaliate violently and we are ready for that,” Sen said.

Earlier,a team of Left MLAs urged Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi to support the state Government’s initiative to restore peace, apart from censuring Trinamool Congress MPs and Union ministers, who are allegedly precipitating violence through provocative statements.

“We are the victims. We are being attacked. We have come to the Governor to draw his attention to this. The state Government is taking certain steps to restore peace in Bengal. We demand that the Governor, being the constitutional head, support the state Government’s initiative,” said Md Masih, chief whip of the ruling Left Front in the Assembly.

“The Union ministers and MPs are openly threatening to attack our partymen and inciting violence. We have enough proof of this which we have given to the Governor. We urge the Governor to take steps to restrain them. The Governor is also the Centre’s representative and so we have asked him to take steps to stop such acts,” added Masih.

“For instance,TC MP Suvendu Adhikary has issued a warning in Khejuri that nobody will remain alive to hold the red flag,” he said.

The Left MLAs alleged that the Trinamool Congress and Maoists were jointly attacking Left cadres and their families. “They are burning down our party offices and homes of our partymen. They are killing our partymen, manhandling women and torturing their families. In fact,we think that Trinamool Congress is Maoists in disguise,” alleged Masih.
