Better late than never: Narendra Modi on Afzal Guru's hanging
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today welcomed the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
"Better late than never," Modi posted on microblogging site Twitter after the Centre announced that Guru was hanged at Tihar Jail here this morning.
Guru, a Jaish-e-Mohammed militant, was convicted of conspiracy in the December 2001 attack on Parliament and was sentenced to death by the Supreme Court in 2004.
After the hanging of Mumbai terror attack convict Ajmal Kasab, main opposition BJP had stepped up its demands for speedy execution of Guru.

#AfzalGuru hanging should have happened 8 years ago. Congress' s cynical politics caused delay. Same cynical politics prompted Govt to act.

Given the doubts on whether he had a fair trial & sensitive situation in Kashmir, hanging Afzal Guru likely to have high political costs.
