Betting racket busted,two held

A sum of Rs 1 lakh,seven mobile phones and a Swift car were seized from the accused identified as Kuldeep Kumar alias Dharma,a resident of Barnala,and Akaash Arora,a resident of Model Town Extension.

Addressing a press conference on Friday,Superintendent of Police (Detective) Surinder Kalia said CIA-I police station in-charge Sub-Inspector Gurpreet Singh had received a tip-off on Thursday evening about the activities of the duo at Flower Enclave Colony on Pakhowal Road.

“The two were apparently luring people to bet on the matches being played in South Africa and win big money,” he added.

The duo has been booked under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Gambling Act.

“Further investigations are on to ascertain the scale of the racket,” added the SP.
